Rainy Spring Day Photos

I don’t know what happened. It was just summer a couple of days ago. Now, that same happy baby looks like this:

Still happy, just colder

Anyway, some stuff to look at in the rain:

Asparagi Some asparagus are starting to emerge. Maybe we can eat a few this year?

Trillum Mysteriatum Lots of trillum coming up in the shade garden and next to the driveway. I need to mark their location.

Ribbit… One of the big problems wildlife face in an urban setting is nowhere they can find shelter without someone walking through or digging the spot up. So, I made this little area under the cedar and near our pond an off-limits “wild” area with some piled up stuff to create nooks and crannies. It was only a week or two later that we heard our first frog out there. Mikio’s named him Frittle.

Sorry ’bout that, grape. Uvas, si! A couple of the grape vines are showing signs of life.

Our “climbing tree” This camellia is almost at the end of its bloom already. This is Mikio’s favorite climbing tree, and the one from which, I’m sure, he’ll fall and break his arm.

Epimideum: E-diddy Another under-rated plant, I think, is epimedium. I’ve got loads of it on the edge of the shade area, and it puts on quite a show– both flower and foliage.

I love the asparagus peeking out of the ground… what type do you grow? I really want to have an asparagus patch, it just hasn’t happened yet!

    Hi Em,

Sorry, just noticed your comment as I was fiddling with some new plugins.

I’ll get a picture of them soon, they’re about 2.5′ tall at this point. I only ate a couple of spears this year (the second).

I must admit, I don’t recall the varieties for sure. I’m really bad about that. I believe they’re Jersey Knight and Purple Passion, but I could be wrong. For that matter, I haven’t a clue what varieties of strawberries or raspberries I have. :-)
