Sex in the Garden

Hah! Made ya look!

Yesterday, I noticed that there were a few branches on my Rainier cherry with pretty nasty infestations of black aphids. I was standing there contemplating what to do about it when I noticed these ladybugs gettin’ it on. It wasn’t too much later that I saw a syrphid fly navigating its way into the curled-up leaf, presumably to lay some eggs. I see pests. These bugs see food for their kids.

No story for the above shots. I just thought they looked nice.

I believe this is a bluet damselfly, though I don’t know much about identifying bugs. Damsels and dragonflies are right up there with bees as some of my absolute FAVE bugs! FABULOUS!

I’m making some progress with the pond project (home of our resident Pacific Tree Frog, Friddle.)

I wish we ate as much lettuce as I grow. Ah well, the chickens like it.

Tomatoland is looking good. It’s always a tough call on planting the solanums out, but these guys appear to be doing OK with their little hoop house for really cold nights.

HEY! How did THAT get in here?! That’s not a garden picture!

HEY! THAT ONE’S EVEN BIGGER! I’M SO SORRY!

i like beets even more than lettuce. Should you find yourself in an avalanche of beets, you know where to unload them. A woman at work told me she’d never seen anyone eat beets every day for a year. Now she has.

    p.s. molto bello bambini!
