LUNCH!

July 21st, 2008 · 4 Comments

Sometimes, I feel like my garden’s not cutting it.  I still have to buy tomatoes, and it’s heading into August soon.  The aphids have discovered my brassicas.  My only peaches obviously have residents at this point.

But, then, I make myself lunch from the garden:

Pile-o-Backyard-Goodness

Today, I had fingerling potatoes sauteed in butter and chives with a mini-egg scramble with walla walla onions and windsor broad favas.

With the exception of the ketchup, salt, and butter, it all came from 100 feet or less of the stove.

So… I guess I’m doing all right.

Beautiful - your photo made my mouth water. I wish I had planted something other than Yukon Golds…I have been a bit disappointed with their flavor and texture so far. I love Fingerlings.

Looks good! I’ve only grown red potatoes and that was a long time ago. I guess I need to try Yukons and Fingerlings too.

Jeez, Princess, now I feel bad that I implied that you were just some weird guy publishing your blog with stock photography so you could launch some freaky farmgirl fetish site. (Yeah, that’s right. Alliteration, baby. I’m a professional.)

Tell ya what, next year we can split the Seed Savers variety pack if you can ride one of your donkeys into town. It’s enough potatoes to feed an army, and you get eight varieties– fingerlings, blues, reds, golds. All very good.

Farmer Jen, potatoes are great. They’re stupid easy to grow, and there’s no comparison between a garden potato and a run of the mill grocery store version. I never would have thought I’d be so into growing stuff like potatoes and garlic, but they’re great– productive, easy, and ultra-useful.

Wow, you were almost being nice there for a second…it brought a tear to my eye when I read the part about you splitting your Seed Saver packet with me, but then I got to the riding-my-donkey-into-town part and my momentary fantasy was dashed to bits.
Ha!!! Gotcha thinking about Daisy D.!!
