Oh, forget it.

Blog topic blowout.  I’m no longer going to blog about garden stuff even sort of exclusively.  Firstly, I haven’t been outside in weeks.  My skin is translucent.  I believe that I am turning into some sort of vampire/Star Trek (the original series) character– those guys with big butt brains.  Here’s me and my colleagues:

Self-Portrait

Anyway, I just have to make note of recent developments.  This Obama guy got elected president.

Now, while I’ve had my bones to pick with him, I couldn’t be happier about his election.  I have never been a supporter of a candidate from the get-go of his candidacy through election.  For that matter, in my voting years, the Republicans have usually won.  But this time, the guy that struck me as the best qualified candidate for the job– the most articulate, the most thoughtful, the least negative, the most international, and the most inspiring– won.   Sweet.

I’m not saying we’re all alright now.  California passed a ban on gay marriage.  California!  Firstly, it was sponsored by some religious nutjob with millions of dollars he inherited from his parents.  Secondly, it’s just wrong.  If you are not gay, why do you feel the need to hassle someone else?  I don’t get it.  I’m straight with children, and I don’t see where gay marriage has any relevance to my life whatsoever– except for the ethical responsibility I feel to protect people getting shit from the ignorant mob for no good reason.

Anyway, and then, the popular vote was closer than I care to consider. 40-something to 50-something.  Sarah Palin is a hick.  John McCain chose her as his running mate.  Are you seriously telling me that 40-some percent of the population voted for them?  They went into the booth and said “yes, I think the Republicans are doing a good job… their policies are working out well… I could see Palin being the leader of the free world… yes, I hereby cast my ballot for them.”

I’m not normally one to cry racism at every turn, but holy crap.  How blind do you have to be to not see that Obama and Biden are a thousand times more qualified to run the country than those two?  How can you not see what a good thing an Obama victory is– almost regardless of the long-term outcome.  The international boost in our reputation alone is probably worth the price of admission.  He’s certainly not going to make things any worse and probably much better.  Palin?  I’ll bet she could come up with some disasters we hadn’t considered.  She didn’t even know Africa was a continent.

Still, contrary to what the stock market says (maybe I’ll start blogging my stock trades… eesh…), things are looking up.  There’s a new sheriff in town.  I just hope he can stay safe and not get Cartered.  We might have a chance to restore some dignity to our country and its people.

Oh yeah… next time, maybe I’ll talk about my new surround sound set up, investing, poker, or remodeling my house.  YOU CAN’T WAIT!

Thanks, Jen! I actually thought that focusing on food would give me inspiration by virtue of focus. Lately, though, I don’t feel like I have enough time or remaining energy to get much of that stuff done. I mean, we still eat… but if I can collect the eggs and aerate the compost now and then, I feel like a success. Doesn’t make for the most satisfying journaling. “Today, got eggs. Stirred compost. Again.”
