Just a short note that, while I was in the kitchen making hot fudge sauce, wifey casually said “you know your bees are coming out?”
Uh, no, I did not.
Indeed, the little buggers had started exiting their cocoons right there in the fridge. I opened up the paper towel, and there were 4-5 of them either emerged or partially so.
I put the fudge sauce on simmer and took the little critters out to the release box.
This kind of screws up my plans to distribute some to my neighbors and release them in stages. I guess when they decide it’s time to come out… it’s time to come out.
It’s supposed to rain for the next week or so… good luck boys. There’s a fair amount of blooming going on… hopefully they can find some chow and not freeze.
Incidentally, you can tell they’re boys usually because of the funny little light-colored tuft of hair on the front of their heads. Makes sense that they’d come out first given that their mother likely deposited their sisters in the back of the tubes. The males come out first and just loiter until the babes start showing up.
