This is seriously going to be tough.
Last night, I was writing until the wee hours, and I must have made a dozen failed trips to the kitchen for a snack. Now, obviously, my Trader Joe’s chocolate covered cranberries were out. Clearly, I could not eat Newman-Os. Let’s see… yogurt… no… honey-roasted peanuts… pita chips have to be safe (nope, right there… in the ingredients… “sugar”)… ok… how about… a bagel! Of course! A whole wheat bagel that says “No High Fructose Corn Syrup” on the bag in big letters! 100% Whole Wheat! NATURAL!
So happy there’s no high-fructose corn syrup in there… everything will be OK now.
Imagine that. Sugar. And honey. And brown sugar. AND molasses. Thank heavens there’s no high-fructose corn syrup in there. That’d mean exposure to fructose and glucose in more forms than are already present.
Apparently, snack-size, whole wheat bagels are off the menu this month.
Thus far, I have been subsisting on my homemade pickles and salads. I’m going to need to take a trip to the store and restock with my new constraints in mind.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a cup of black coffee waiting for me.

Every so often I go on a “diet” that eliminates all forms of sugar and also yeast to help clear out any excess yeast in my digestive tract (Candida Albicans ~ Google it) Anyway, I understand your frustration with the lack snack foods that do not have sugar in them. Wheat Thins or TJs Woven Wheat Wafers are the only crackers I have found that actually taste good. Homemade popcorn, organic of course. Olives and raw nuts also make good snacks. Shredded Wheat for cold cereal. Oatmeal for hot. Basically any vegetables, grains, meats and fish do not contain sugar. So you won’t exactly starve as long as you can cook. Or garden.
On that special diet I could not consume alcohol or vinegar either as they are fermented with sugar. Also dairy products with the exception of yogurt, because they contain lactose (one of those -ose’s) It’s tough, but doable. I did notice that when I stick to the no sugar/no yeast diet strictly that I do lose weight as a side effect. And it really does clear out your digestive system and help clear up allergies etc. Good luck to you on your new adventure in eating! You are an inspiration.
Correction to my above comment: I meant to say TRISCUITS not Wheat Thins. Wheat Thins as you have already noted do have sugar in them. Triscuits do not. Sorry.
