MMWS: Day 10 - Withdrawal?

This has to be short. I wonder, though, if any of my mood change (and not for the better) has anything to do with the sugar withdrawal. Seems that the jury is out on the physiological basis of it, but it makes sense to me that my body would have acclimated itself to my (rather high) intake of sugar over the years.

In any case, I’m in a pretty dark place, mood-wise right now, and while I can list all kinds of things contributing to it, let’s just say it’s fairly extreme by my standards.  I’m hoping to pull out of it soon so I can get back to work and stop dwelling on the disappointing.

  • The sugar withdrawal may be real if you have been used to consuming a fairly high amount of processed sugars in the past. You might try eating more whole fruit throughout the day and especially first thing in the morning. I have heard that doing that releases the natural sugars into your system more slowly and helps to keep your metabolism and your mood more “even”. Are you having any particular food cravings? Sweets, breads, carbs, alcohol etc?

  • Jeez dude, and not to go all Krishnamurti-y on ya but.. the current dark drama you portray could indeed stem from a belief that YOU, your mood, your dwelling, your disappointment, and so on, are static, existent things. A pretty good case could be made that these are actually momentary blips that you choose accept as real, hence the waves of crap are given a pool to accumulate around you (the dubiously invented ‘psyche’, if you will).

What’s up with your beloved coffee intake? You know that getting all high on that early will crash you later in the day. What about the other pharma-stuff? Do you need to take a puff of cannabis to forget about shit for a while? Let us not forget the life-saving quality of a walk either.. And in the golden rule mode – I ain’t even gonna ask about your domestic harmony or lack thereof.. (Don’t ask, don’t tell, heh..)

Anyway, since you’re laying it out here, I thought comments might be all right. Oh ya, we’s also in a very waning, season of the witch, time of year.. shit happens..

    aloha,

    Darren

  • Hi Jen, I’m going to miss your comments the most. You’ve always got something encouraging to say. (By now, I’m assuming you’ve read today’s post…)

I’m working on the sugar thing, and even though it, too, is optional, I’m going to stick with it. One thing I’ve learned from this experiment is that refined sugars are much worse for a person than I imagined. I’ll see the experiment through, and while I may lighten up a bit afterwards, I think I’ve changed my… life, really. Anyway, no, no cravings to speak of, but it’s hard to tell in the current state of affairs. Whatever’s the “root” cause of this little stint, it’s been strangely englightening– not necessarily in good ways always, but I tend to the “better to be clear on things” side regardless. I hope to get back to blogging someday… if not about food and gardening… about something else. Who knows. I’m open to anything at this point.

And Darren… well, see above, and since our relationship extends into other media, including genetics, telephones, and actual presence– I’ll leave it at that on here.

  • Please let me know about any future blogs or blog posts that you do. I really do enjoy reading what you write. A heartfelt Thank You, Rian. Ypu’ve made a difference.

  • Typo. Should be “You’ve made a difference”

  • Although I’m chiming in late, and you’ve already professed whose comments you will miss the most, I still would like to give my $.02 worth: I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly, Rian. I hope you come back soon, because it’s always more fun when you’re playing, too. And anyway, you make me smile. So, even though our relationship does not include genetics, we have swapped info. Use it if you need to.
    Your friend, danni k.
